rainy Saturdays

Today it has come to me a feeling of a memory that had long haunt me . This rainy day has the blame of bring it to me today .

I never liked the rain. It's cold and paralyzes us . We do not do the same things a raining day than a sunny day. But I have particular fondness to the rainy Saturdays ... When I was little, those were the days that we was not going to run, skate or play outside with my brother and sisters. But were the ones my father took us to the library. We could spend there all the morning. Reading or listening to the stories we most liked.

I remember how my older sister sat with me and read to me. She loved it and I loved it even more . I especially liked this story:
"Adivina cuánto te quiero"

This was definitely my favorite book.

I enjoyed seeing the pictures and know without anyone telling me it, what was happening. And that is the definition of a favorite book for a child. The one they can most remember. Books that containing stories and pictures or draws that want to be read and seen over and over again. Books whose reading does not tire, on the contrary, they want to be heard night after night.

What did you do on rainy days? Did you go to the library too? Did you have any favorite book as a child? Do you remember the stories people read to you when you was a child?

Here you have the story in order you want to read it.

  2. What a wonderful story Sara! After reading your post and start watching the video of the story, it came to mind the picture of a little Sara in the arms of his sister ... how cute!
I found fantastic the story and I completely agree with you: if you love something, you never forget it, and this is applicable to life in general.
In my case, there was a story that I really loved. As my mother, I asked for it every night before bed and it was a very special book. It was a gift from Santa and I was the star! The story is called "Noelia on the farm" and was, as you can imagine, from my first trip to the farm. Think about the illusion that it made me Santa knew so much about me (the names of my best friends, my trips...).
    Anyway, so happy times...

  3. Hello Sara,

First of all, I would like to congratulate you for your post, because I can feel how important was the moments that you spend with your siblings at the rainy days. I must say that, my experiences were quite similar to yours. However my parents did not have time to take us to a library because they were working most of the time. Instead, my siblings and I played to create our own library at home. I remember those rainy days as if they were yesterday. Due to we were seven, my elder brothers were the ones who prepared the library with all the books that we had, and that rest were the visitors. My eldest brother, Nacho, had an amazing creativity. He always invented great stories for us and made draws about the stories. He was an extremely talented person. Every now and then, comes to mind memories of my childhood with all my brothers and I get quite nostalgic. I really miss that days, they were very happy times, always playing and getting into mischief.

From my point of view, the approach to literature at early ages helps and encourages the development of imagination and creativity. For that reason, I think it is essential that happen both at home and at school in order to be a continuum. Besides, every single child born with a limitless imagination, and I believe it is a terrible mistake to condemn it to the ostracism by trying to develop other skills. Instead, what we should do as a teachers is to encourage the development of all their abilities as a whole.

Last but not least, regarding to your previous post, I think it is amazing the work you do taking care these children, and telling them stories because their parents do not have time for it. I am sure that both children and parents will thank you in the future.

Congratulations again for your post Sara!!!

  4. Hello Sara! :)

I like your post very much, I totally could imagine you as cute little Sara being at the library with your favorite book.
I agree with you, rainny days are boring, there is not much to do... but yes, we can do some other things...I remember that when I was little, and it was rainning, I used to watch movies or play board games with my parents. The truth is that I never went to the library with them, but I think it is a great idea to do. If I ever become a mom, I definitly will take my children there. It is a good way to enhace children to read.
Thank you for sharing that fantastic idea with us. I also agree with Alberto, children and parents will be very thankful to you in a future.
    See you on Monday! :)

  5. Hi Sara!
I really like your post, is so cute what you did with your family. I´ve never gone with my parents to the library (well, in daganzo we only had the library of the school, because the one that we have now was built some years ago) but we spent some many times enjoying reading. My father used to tell me so many stories and mummy used to do that before going bed.
In fact, there was one night a month when my father came to sleep with me in my bedroom, I remember that my old bedroom had lots of pictures of animals, the countryside... and we took the sleeping-bags and we pretend that we were sleeping on the countryside. We used to invent a lot of stories related to animals and all these things, pointing all the pictures that I had in my bedroom until I fall asleep.
    It was marvelous.
When I became mum, I would like to do something like this...because this is how I started to injoy reading and telling stories...
